Experience Ramadan together

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim lunar calendar, which changes every year from the solar calendar. This month of fasting is during the academic year, which means students will be taking classes, exams, doing sports and much more all while fasting.  How can you support students during this intense month? How can you share with them in celebrating the end of Ramadan with Eid al-Fitr? Learn this and more in this workshop.

You may have seen the joke, “Not even water?” when people ask Muslims if they can drink water or not during the month of Ramadan.  It’s true: not even water!  Learn about this month of fasting and what it means for the campus: the college president, deans, administrators, professors and students.  What is Ramadan?  What is the significance of this month?  What is fasting? Why do Muslims fast? Is it safe for students to fast? Do other faiths observe some type of fasting? What’s it like to fast as a college student ?  Why is it important to the administration to learn about Ramadan ?Is there a holiday that comes after Ramadan? How will it impact campus life? You will be able to answer these questions and more after this session. (suhoor, join students in solidarity fasting)
